The broadcast monitoring system project for the IMC (Independent Media Commission) in Pristina, Kosovo, financed and implemented in 2014 by the MNRA (Mediterranean Regulatory Authorities Network), was realized using a XENTAURIX Media & Broadcast Logger system (hereinafter referred to as the XENTAURIX System). The IMC is responsible for the control of frequencies and operators as well as for the monitoring of program content and election campaigns on radio and television.

At seven local sites (Gjilan, Peja, Mitrovica, Prizren, Ferizaj, Viti and Dragash), XENTAURIX systems receive, process and record 106 terrestrial TV and radio channels around the clock (24/7) in endless-loop mode for 45 days.

All local XENTAURIX sites are networked with the XENTAURIX Masterunit system at the IMC headquarters in Pristina, where staff analyze the recorded broadcast content from the XENTAURIX subunits at multiple PC-based monitoring workstations and create video and audio clips. These clips are initially stored at the IMC headquarters for six months and subsequently archived on a long-term storage server for up to five years.

The XENTAURIX System consists of a redundant XENTAURIX Masterunit system with seven distributed XENTAURIX subunits, equipped with integrated receivers for DVB-C, UHF and FM signals. The IMC headquarters additionally hosts the central media storage server and the long-term storage server.

The aging XENTAURIX systems are now being modernized with new hardware and software updates. The corresponding tender was awarded to Jolix of Pristina, which placed the modernization contract with artec technologies AG.

In the approximately 700 m² LUNA hall in Cologne, a realistic lunar surface is recreated on Earth. The facility is located directly next to ESA’s Astronaut Centre (EAC) and is a joint project of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). LUNA serves as a fully integrated training and testing environment where lunar-like conditions are simulated. Researchers and astronauts can practice maneuvering on the artificial lunar surface and test new technologies essential for future missions to the Moon and beyond.

As in the European Astronaut Centre (EAC), where the XENTAURIX system has been successfully in operation for over 15 years and continuously modernized, the XENTAURIX Media Recorder is now also used in the LUNA hall. The system documents and archives training activities, exploration scenarios, and technical tests.

The 4K NDI PTZ cameras installed in LUNA, in combination with the XENTAURIX Media Recorder, provide extensive capabilities: monitoring, high-quality recording, detailed archiving, and the creation of clips for analysis and documentation. Authorized users can also access live and on-demand streams from the training environment.

This year’s IBC 2025 once again provided the opportunity to welcome numerous customers, prospects, partners, and system integrators to the artec technologies AG booth C39 in Hall 7 — featuring a new booth design and a larger exhibition area.

The XENTAURIX Media & Broadcast Logger systems from artec technologies AG capture and process video, audio and metadata from various signal sources. The products are used for TV, radio and video broadcast recording, compliance recording, media monitoring, competition and media monitoring, content recognition and analysis as well as for the production and further processing of video clips and snapshots. For over 20 years, the systems have proven their functionality and reliability to broadcasters, media monitoring agencies, media institutions, training centers and educational institutions.

Ingenious feature: AI-based, multilingual speech recognition

The AI-based multilingual speech recognition (Speech-to-Text, S2T for short) integrated into the XENTAURIX Media & Broadcast Logger systems is a revolutionary feature. Broadcast and webcast channels can now be automatically transcribed in a wide range of languages and optionally translated into a variety of target languages, including English, German, Spanish, French, Arabic and Chinese. The technology automatically takes spelling and grammar rules such as punctuation and capitalization into account, reducing the amount of editorial work on the translated texts to a minimum.

Increased efficiency through automatic transcription and translation

The use of transcription and translation in over 50 different languages offers completely new perspectives for broadcasters, press and news agencies, digital publishers, crisis centers, media monitoring agencies, news services as well as financial and economic sectors. Current news broadcasts are available with an adjustable time delay as transcribed or translated text in English or German, synchronized with the broadcast. Video clips with transcription or just the transcription can be created and forwarded on-the-fly or at a later date. All broadcasts are recorded 24/7 with customer-specific storage time (days, months, years) and can be retrieved and edited at any time. The search engine integrated in the logger enables a targeted search for contributions by entering search words, broadcaster and time period.

Flexible deployment options: In-house system or cloud service

The XENTAURIX Media & Broadcast Logger is available as an in-house system or as a cloud service. The speech-to-text feature is optional and works autonomously without the need for an external S2T provider. The logger systems have a modular design and can process a few to thousands of channels simultaneously, depending on customer requirements, while ensuring maximum operational reliability. Originally developed as a digital video recorder, the XENTAURIX Media & Broadcast Logger has evolved into a multifunctional system. Recording and Analysis System for Long Range Multi-Sensor HD-SDI Video Cameras

Within the scope of a maritime project, artec technologies AG has developed a HD-SDI recording system – based on its XENTAURIX® Media & Broadcast Logger platform – that processes, records and makes searchable video data from state-of-the-art multi-sensor HD-SDI cameras including internal and external metadata. The metadata are NMEA and GPS data. Among other things, the XENTAURIX system is used to analyze combat events. The operation is unspectacular and consists only of start and stop. After the stop entry, a video clip is automatically created and forwarded to the command centre for analysis. In the background, the system permanently records 24/7. For further recording analysis, the XENTAURIX HTML5-based dashboard is available. The decision in favor of the XENTAURIX system was made after extensive field tests with various HD-SDI recorders. With this solution artec technologies complements the product portfolio in the maritime business field. Already in maritime use are XENTAURIX® systems for training documentation in ship simulators and MULTIEYE® video systems for sea-based reconnaissance in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The combination of long-range multi-sensor HD-SDI cameras such as the SeaFlir 280HD and the XENTAURIX system is highly interesting in terms of spectacular, multi-spectral video quality with associating metadata – for all security areas.
